Troublesome Creek is a Louisville based progressive bluegrass band.
Troublesome Creek takes a mix of traditional bluegrass, old-time country, rock, blues, and just a hint of jazz to create their sound.
It is not unusual at a live show for TC to follow a Monroe number with the Allman Brothers and then follow that with a country ballad from Merle Haggard.
And you will get more than your fair share of music any time you come out to see them; playing 3+ hours of music most nights.
They released their debut album, From a Bottle, September 2nd, 2006.
The band’s co-founders, Dale Weiter, Emily Wrinkles, and John Dwyer, started playing together in 2001.
Each of them contributed some of their own material on their debut release.
On From a Bottle the band dabbles in a variety of musical styles, staying true to their wide-ranging influences.
Emily offers up several tales of alcohol induced adventures on “Bottle Song” and “East End Blues”.
Dale’s “Floyd’s Fork” is a fast-paced banjo number in the spirit of the great banjo pickers of our time.
John offers up a number of tunes including “Growing up Blind”, a tale of the loss of his father, “Loner’s Tale”, and “Hickory Knob”, a fiddle tune featuring guest appearances from local pickers Dave Howard on fiddle and Simon Meurer, a former member of the band, on lead guitar.
There are also several covers on the album arranged by the band including George Gershwin’s “Summertime” and “Memories of You”, a haunting duet featuring John and Emily.
Troublesome Creek plays several times a month in Louisville and surrounding areas.
Taking bluegrass and putting their own twist on it, they credit Bill Monroe, Flatt and Scruggs, John Hartford, The Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan, and David Grisman among others as major influences.
Come see them and enjoy some fast-paced finger-pickin’ good times at a place near you!!
